New service standards for Income Security appeals
I’m happy to share that we’ve updated our service standards for Canada Pension Plan (including disability) and Old Age Security appeals. These new standards took effect on April 1, 2024.
People want to know how long their appeal will take, and when they’ll get a decision after their hearing. Our updated standards provide a better picture of the process and help us balance efficiency and fairness.
Our goal remains to meet our standards 80% of the time. Here’s what changed for Canada Pension Plan (including disability) and Old Age Security appeals:
- At the General Division:
- We increased the standard from when parties are ready for the hearing to when you can expect your decision from 70 to 90 days
- At the Appeal Division:
- We shortened the standard from when you file your appeal to when you get permission (leave) to appeal from 45 days to 30 days
- We have a new standard of 90 days from the end of the response period to when you can expect your decision
- We now have a 60-day standard from when your hearing takes place to when you can expect your decision
Our service standards keep us accountable. Keep an eye on our website: we’ll start publishing data on how we’re faring against our new standards this July.
