Employment Insurance Appeal Division
Appeal a decision from the Employment Insurance Board of Appeal or the Social Security Tribunal General Division
If you disagree with the decision you got from either:
- the Employment Insurance (EI) Board of Appeal opens a new window , or
- the Social Security Tribunal (SST) General Division
you can appeal that decision to the Appeal Division.
The Appeal Division decides whether the EI Board of Appeal or the SST General Division made certain types of mistakes. If there was a mistake, the Appeal Division also decides how to fix it. The Appeal Division can:
- make a new decision
- send a matter back to the EI Board of Appeal for reconsideration, or
- dismiss the appeal.
In some cases, the Appeal Division can decide a question of constitutional law, such as a challenge to a law under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms opens a new window .
