In March 2019, I announced that we would publish more General Division decisions. We did this in response to stakeholder comments that too few General Division decisions were available for users to read and research.

Since then, we've increased the number of those published decisions by 57%:

  • from 405 decisions between March 2018 to February 2019
  • to 636 decisions between March 2019 to February 2020.

Now, we’re taking that commitment one step further. In cases where the Appeal Division grants leave to appeal and then decides the appeal, we will publish both the Appeal Division decision and the related General Division decision.

This will provide users with access to the full history of an appeal. Having access to full appeal histories as well as to more General Division decisions will help Canadians better prepare their appeals and understand how the appeal system works.
