The Social Security Tribunal will publish more General Division decisions
Part of being a more accessible tribunal is ensuring that people understand the types of cases we hear, and that the people who use our system know how we make decisions. Stakeholders have told us they would like to see more General Division decisions published.
That is why we will start publishing more General Division appeals. Our aim is to publish a broad range of decisions that are representative of the issues the General Division faces, in both Income Security and Employment Insurance appeals.
We will continue to publish final Appeal Division decisions, including decisions where leave to appeal is denied. But we will stop publishing interlocutory decisions of the Appeal Division (such as where leave to appeal is granted). These are of less value to Canadians who are trying to understand how the Tribunal works.
These changes will allow us to:
- Make more decisions available to Canadians so they can better understand how all parts of the Tribunal work – we expect to publish about 60% more General Division decisions than we have been publishing up to now;
- Publish the decisions that are the most useful for Canadians; and
- Continue to promote the transparency and accountability of our decision-making.
These changes are another way to better help you prepare for your appeal.
